Check samples for digestibility or delight factors. Warts: Repaired dullspots & dropouts but surely missed a few. Some slight volume/high end fluctuation from audience movement/mike blockage. Some AUD talk but it ain't bad. #16 has cut in middle, presumably a tapeflip (not much missing). Two opening acts: Lets Active, plus the Hit & Run Theatre Troupe comedy act. From Keith Stern: Paid attendance 298 (actually 350-400 people?). Probably the biggest headliner REM gig to date & band paid $680 (a new record?!). Rider expenses $10. NOT the same as the Charlotte 1981-11-07 Viceroy Park show. Recording Information: Nakamichi 550 portable stereo cassette recorder with Electro-Voice PL77A microphones set up in an XY axis -> master stereo audience Maxell XLIIS-90(?) cassette, Dolby off* -> 1st generation Maxell MX-90 cassette, Dolby B on (circa 1990 transfer made on the original deck). (*slight chance Dolby B was used. If so, it was DEFINITELY used on playback as well). Playback 2015-08-06: 1st generation Maxell MX-90 cassette on Nakamichi 680ZX cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth adjusted for individual tape, heads cleaned & demagnetized -> Sony Linear PCM Recorder PCM-M10 (LPCM 44.10kHz/16bit WAV files) -> computer -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, -1.44% averaged pitch (speed) fix with single pass after frequency analysis & with pitchpipe verification, NO equalisation] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. First uploaded week of 2016-07-23. Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline. DimeTravel 300: MANY, many thanks to the original taper & trader, DIMER tomcannon! ::: Corrections welcome ::: I've had this & the 1981 Viceroy show from the taper for some decades, but at his request I never traded them, since there was quite reasonable concern about bootlegs appearing back in the day. With his good wishes, they are now being passed out into the world, DIME first. Luckily I had 2 copies made of this show for me back in the day, both on Maxell metal tapes. One copy had suffered some serious aging issues with volume fluctuations, etc, but then I realised the other copy (also first gen) was fine. The joys (rewards?) of an anal retentive personality. Maybe at some point before long I'll be able to offer you copies directly from the master, but this was carefully transfered & it's minor issues worked on thruout - without any EQ or NR - and sounds pretty damn fine. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees. Do whatever you want with it except sell it, 'cause that ain't cool! Dimeadozen.org: Torrent 567173 (by kneesfudd)
