It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) [5:57] Received in online trade, audience recording of unknown lineage Seeded to Dime by eckythump 21 April 2020 Michael Stipe - Vocals, harmonica Peter Buck - Guitar, mandolin Mike Mills - Bass Guitar, keyboards, backing vocals Scott McCaughey - Guitar, backing vocals Bill Rieflin - Drums Ken Stringfellow - Keyboards Show notes: Opening night of the 2003 tour, Tivoli was a small venue of around 1,000 capacity, with Michael telling the crowd they wanted to start the tour in Holland to make amends for cancelling the shows there in 1995. Lots of firsts at this show - the live debut of Animal, the first time Drive had been played in its album tempo (1995 was the 'funk' version, and they didn't play it in 1999), and the first appearances in a setlist for Little America since 11 February 1989, Maps and Legends since 15 June 1989, and Welcome to the Occupation since 21 November 1995. It was also Bill Rieflin's first show on drums for the band (RIP Bill). Also long time friend Linda Hopper from Magnapop joined the band on stage to perform Favorite Writer; a studio version with Michael on vocals appeared as the B-side to Bad Day later that year. For those unaware, Linda met Michael at the University of Athens in French class (she helped Michael with writing the French parts of Talk About The Passion), and was in a band with Michael's sister Lynda called 'Oh Ok' before Magnapop. A terrific show to open up an excellent tour. Recording notes: A pretty good recording, clear and minimal audience interference. Not quite as high a standard as some of the other 2003 recordings out there, but still enjoyable to listen to. I don't know who taped this or what equipment they used, but it was someone who knew what they were doing. A few minor flaws - The One I Love has some minor skips, and Walk Unafraid joins in progress, but most of the song is there. Otherwise it's a fine sounding recording. Torrent notes: I received this in an online trade last year. I can't find any instance of this ever being shared on Dime before. I suspect it was originally shared on the long defunct Murmurs.com tracker, someone out there might be able to confirm. I renamed all the files, tagged them, and added some images of the ticket, setlist and a few photos from the show. Enjoy! Dimeadozen.org: Torrent 675566 (by eckythump)
