Comments: The best show I have seen in a long time; Sting and Peter Gabriel did a brief summer tour with each of their bands. As opposed to conventional tours where each artist would play a set with their own band, this one featured a rotating cast where various band members would sit in with the other performer -- and Sting and Peter Gabriel each acted as supporting musicians on the others' numbers. The highlights of the set (for me) were when they sang the other's songs -- for example, Peter Gabriel doing a haunting "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free," or Sting singing the Genesis-era "Dancing With The Moonlit Knight." It was obvious that the two are good friends, respect each other musically, and relished the opportunity to perform together. The three hours went by far too quickly. In terms of the recording, honestly, I was hoping for more, but it isn't bad. I was side stage directly in front of a speaker stack with no audience members near me; for some reason, this recording isn't as vibrant as I was expecting it to be. That said, it's certainly listenable, and I applied some post-production to try to give it a little more life, but on a positive note there is almost no crowd interference. I'm probably being hypercritical; for those who didn't go through the stress of smuggling gear through airport-like security, it probably sounds fine. In any case, there aren't many recordings in circulation from this tour, so if you are a fan of either Gabriel or Sting (or both), you will probably find this worthwhile. Mp3 samples are included.
