Roland CS-10EM binaural omnis > Tascam DR-05 (recording at 24-48, recording level 1, 80 Hz low pass) > FinalCD 0.17 (convert to 16-44.1, sharp filter, dither) > edit Sting - bass, vocals, acoustic guitar Dominic Miller - guitars, bass, background vocals Peter Tickell - violin, mandolin Rhani Krija - percussion Vinnie Colaiuta - drums David Sancious - keys Jo Lawry - background vocals Joe Sumner - background vocals on some songs, guitar on "Next To You" Main set recorded from about 10 meters from the stage barricade, maybe 2 meters off center (to David Sancious' side). Encore recorded from back by the FOH. The sound was slightly distorted. It's not the recording, but was the P.A. sound that night. The distortion was already apparent during the pre-show music. Surprisingly, the recording came out very well anyway, at least in my opinion. There are the occasional clappers and talkers but I had feared for much worse given the shitty setting of this show (one huge, narrow, uncontrolled GA area, totally packed). This was a great show, with Sting in a great mood. Also, some of the best bass playing I have witnessed from him in a long time. Stellar solos all around, with Peter Tickell (on Driven To Tears) and David Sancious (on When The World...) sticking out. Rhani Krija was a great addition and high in the mix. At times it almost sounded to me like Rhani added the "Stewart Copeland factor" to Vinnie Colaiuta's very orthodox drumming style. Of course Vinnie is an extremely accomplished drummer, and in that sense he probably IS the best drummer in the world (as Sting so frequently states). But I sometimes think his playing lacks colour compared to some of Sting's other drummers (Stewart, Josh Freese, Abe Laboriel), and colour is what Rhani's percussion brings to the mix. I for one hope he stays on the team for the tour for the new album. Dimeadozen.org: Torrent 568321 (by pigsfromagun)
