(tj7.org/police.html), No Noise Reduction, No EQ, no compression, no pitch adjustment (originally). Some superfluous tape breaks removed. An image of the tape is included. Secondary Source (*): sec1968 (trade CDR > EAC > TLH > .flac files) Remastered version: Speed corrected, significant phase adjustments, level balancing, EQ, patching by ledwhofloyd (Ross) in December 2022. Additional lineage: FLAC > TAudioconverter (combine tracks) > Audacity > MATLAB (speed adjustment) > Audacity (edits/tracking) > FLAC > TLH > FLAC (level 8) Source notes: -There are other versions of this same recording distributed by Chalkfarmer and sec1968 -The JL tape source distributed by tj7 is clearly the lowest gen/highest quality as of 2022 -There are tape cuts after Wrapped Around Your Finger, Invisible Sun, Every Breath You Take, and Murder By Numbers -Unfortunately, the JL tape source is missing the end of the recording: Can't Stand Losing You (cuts after ~1 minute), and So Lonely -The end of the recording must have been recorded because it exists on the Chalkfarmer and sec1968 sources -I patched the end part using the sec1968 source with a roughly 1 minute crossfade between sources Speed adjustment notes: -Tracks 1-9: 0% (speed already basically correct) -Tracks 10-13: -0.9% (because it was running fast) -Tracks 14-17: -1.9% -Track 18: started -1.3% and by 2 minutes gradually shifted back to -1.9% (I adjusted in discrete 0.1% increments) -Tracks 19-21 (JL): 0% (speed already basically correct) -Tracks 21-23 (sec1968): started +1.2% (because it was running slow) and gradually shifted to being on speed after about 10 minutes (I adjusted the variable section in discrete 0.1% increments) Other notes: -Many phase adjustments -Adjusted levels slightly to balance channels -Spectral analysis and my ears indicated that the frequency balance was a bit off for the JL source despite it's relatively high quality. I don't often release EQed versions because it can be somewhat subjective, but I wanted to in this case. -For JL source, EQ to boost bass and upper midrange, and attenuate lower midrange and high frequencies. See sample frequency spectra and spectrograms before and after EQ. -JL tape source is not completely clean. There are some what I think could be characterized as micro-dropouts on one of the channels. The only way I know how to deal with them would have been to spot-monoize ~0.5 sec sections, and I didn't want to do that. -Cleaned up a lot of glitches/discontinuities in the sec1968 source -Not possible to really EQ match the sec1968 source to the primary JL source because sec1968's does not have the high frequency detail. I did EQ it somewhat to bring out some more of the highs that it did have (up to ~8 kHz). I am also sharing a less processed version of only the JL/tj7 source. That version is not patched or EQed - only speed corrected, levels balanced, and with minor phase adjustments. This is the more significantly remastered version.
