First off, welcome to the party SCIhead (from now on he will be referred to as "Rand-Eye" for the master series). Rand-Eye comes to use via guitars101 (Goody posts most of our shows there so all our series have pretty good presence there). Rand-Eye joined dime in the interest of getting his masters out, made contact and we were off and running. Using a handheld Aiwa deck with an Aiwa mic, the series will be approximately 20 volumes similar to the genres TapeTyrant focused on captured between 1985 to 1990. Many new wave artists with a sprinkling of Rock and Jazz Fusion mixed in captured in the southern California area. There will be a number of shows that will be a second source but also include performances that appear to not circulate at all. As for quality, Rand-Eye says "we're not talking Millard quality here" BUT I will say for a handheld recorder with an external Aiwa mic he got some very good captures. Taping is all about location, location, location and it sounds like in the majority of cases Rand-Eye found his spot and give us a highly listenable capture. Volume 4 features the March 2nd Unforgettable Fire show at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles (the first of three nights U2 played in LA), it's a big upgrade to the one other recorder I'm aware of circulating. Rand-Eye did an excellent job on the capture only cutting the end of "40". Thanks to Rand-Eye for deciding it's time to leave no tape behind and properly get his masters out for all of us to enjoy.
