The date came just a month before the Tempe, Arizona shows filmed for ‘Rattle and Hum’ and I believe this recording was part of preparations for that production. There is no hard evidence, but the straightforward pro-shot capture suggests it may have served as a crew rehearsal or test. The tape is a clean transfer which, despite its age, offered a surprisingly solid audio source compared to most cassette copies circulating from the time. AUDIO NOTES: The original soundtrack was very dry but tight. Direct from the desk, with little ambience. For this project, the audio was carefully re-worked: • Stem-splitting allowed the separation of vocals and all band members individually. • Tracks were then remixed and re-balanced for more natural weight and clarity. • A mastering pass added greater dynamic range, depth, and a touch of sparkle and punch across all frequencies. • Low-level hums and tape noise were reduced, but left partly intact so that the soft audience sound remains present. Note: During parts of the encore, Bono’s vocal feed shows noticeable **saturation** (likely a soundboard input gain or fader pushed too hot). This only affects his voice as the rest of the mix remains clean. The original source never clipped; what you hear is natural harmonic distortion, not digital overload.
