I have been lucky that every show I have attended has had a recording made available. I listened to some good advice though and took it upon myself to record shows I attend also. Recording is difficult and isn't always perfect but if nothing else, you have a recording. I think of it as "Taper Karma", get out and make the attempt, your recording may be the only one. If everyone at least made the attempt, regardless of the outcome, every show would have some kind of recording.
