I knew that the fan club tickets would sell out in the blink of an eye, but yet I did let the ticket in my basked slip anyway. The ticket was for the Paris date of Bono’s book tour, and I felt conflicted whether I should go or not, and I finally decided against it. Time away from home, money and the many shows this past summer spoke against yet another trip to a european capital just to see a book reading. I regretted not buying the tickets almost immediately, and of course, I could not get anything in the public sale. Oh well. And then at the beginning of November reports started to come in form the first dates in the US and then a great friend sent me his tape of the San Francisco stop of the tour. I did like very much what I was hearing, but since there were no pictures on Insta and no videos on Youtube, I did ask my friend if the visuals are worth seeing the show in person. His answer was that they did not, and getting ahead of myself, he was right. But then a fifth row almost center ticket popped up on Ticketmaster two days before the Berlin show, and this time I could not resist buying it. And I am glad I did, and that I made the trip. The show was so much more than a book reading. But for me the most important thing was Bono’s mood on stage. We all know he’s a great showman and perfect for stadium shows. But this time I was able to see him form 7 meters away, and it showed clearly that he was loving what he was doing. His little smiles when the fans in the first few rows were singing along quietly. And while Bono is fully aware how lucky he is, and what a great live he is living, he was not hiding the darker corners of his life. But listen for yourself and enjoy. And maybe read the book.
